La Merigue is
a collection of old farm buildings which have been
sympathetically restored to provide high quality
holiday accommodation. The properties stand in approx.
5 acres of their own grounds on a south facing hillside
overlooking a peaceful wooded valley.
The properties are made up of renovated dry stone farm buildings and a tobacco drying barn. They all date from the1830's. Their position takes full advantage of the views to the south and enjoy the sun throughout the day. |
 |
All
the properties have exposed dry stone walls with many
exposed timbers and roof trusses. Whenever possible
original features have been retained - the old beams
and in the case of La Grange, the stone staircase
and mangers - they have been converted for all year
round occupation. Since moving to La Merigue we have upgraded the woodburning stoves in all cottages to ensure your winter holidays will be warm and cosy ones. Ground floors are tiled whilst the upper floors are
carpeted or finished with wooden boards. Each is also
well equipped and comfortably furnished with adequate
supplies of cutlery, crockery, glassware and cooking
utensils. Pillows, duvets and bed-linen
are all provided. Towels
however are not provided.
Each property has its own terrace, barbecue area and garden furniture.
La Grange stands alone with it's own, private, 8 x 5 metre swimming pool whilst Les Roches, La Bergiade
and Sauvagine share a 10 x 5 metre pool. The grounds are dotted with
fruit trees, oak ash and walnut trees as well as vines and juniper bushes.
It is a peaceful location rich in wild life and atmosphere.

In addition to the wooded valley we face, which has a plethora of colour nearly all year round, our grounds have been beautifully landscaped over the years to include not only oak and ash but many different fruit trees for you to enjoy (assuming the season is good). We have numerous varieties of plum, apple, fig and walnut trees that grow in our 5 acres. All in all it provides a most peaceful location that is both rich in wildlife and atmosphere.
Over the time we've owned La Merigue, we have been blessed with many wild visitors to our grounds that have included deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, red squirrels, rabbits, lizards (small and rather cute!), salamanders and numerous birds. If you are lucky during your stay with us, you may well see the family of Black Kites that circle above us, along with the many Buzzards that take to the thermals that we constantly have in our valley (bring your binoculars with you!).
We have spotted over 30 types of garden birds that include Grey Shrikes, Hoopoes, Nuthatches and Green and Spotted Woodpeckers, not to mention the more common birds you'd expect to see. Being in a rural location (2 minutes drive away from the nearest main route), our tranquil setting lends itself to the many and varied species that visit our grounds. Our lane that runs to the village has on average 6 cars a day (one of which is the postman!).
The most frequently comment we receive from our many guests is that the photographs of La Merigue, it's setting and views, just don't do it justice. One aspect that is very difficult for us to convey on this website or any of our adverts, is the sheer enormity of the view along with the calming atmosphere. It is both a pleasing and frustrating problem to have but one we are constantly trying to remedy! |
